Thankful Thursday

As we all know, Hurricane Sandy made her presence known in the Northeast on Monday evening.  It began to get really windy here about 10 am.  It rained all day of course.  We met dad for lunch and then came back home to stay put.  Craig still had things he had to take care of.  He made it home about 3 pm.

We thought it would be wise to bring in the patio furniture, and I'm so glad we did!

We lost power at 4:30, when I was about to cook dinner.  Thankfully we have a gas stove, so I was still able to cook.  The day before, the church had given us a box full of things we would need for the winter, one being a lantern.  Boy, did that thing come in handy while cooking and eating.

These pictures don't look like it's dark (flash), but it was very dark!

Craig brought home his laptop so we watched a movie, in the dark.

As we were getting ready to go to bed, I heard this buzz in the kitchen, so we went downstairs to look around and could not figure out where it was coming from, but it was sooo much louder down there.  Craig went outside and it was the buildings fire box.  I called the FD and they said it was because the power was off, that it would quit when the power came back on.  The wind was so strong, it was quite scary at many times.

The girls were scared of course, so they slept in our bed.  That wasn't working for me, so I went to sleep on the couch.  AC had already fallen asleep so she slept in her bed.

It was pretty on Tues.  It rained off and on and was still pretty windy, but nothing like Monday night.

We spent alot of time at the church because they had power.  We did school Mon, Tues, and Wed.  The church did have a little damage, but some of it gotten taken care of on Tues.

I did cook dinner again Tues night by the lantern.  Gave the girls baths with boiled water mixed with cold water.  It was a little more cooler than warm, but it got the job done.

The girls and I decided to watch another movie after bath time.  Anna Claire didn't have a nap that day, so she was out in no time.  After the movie, we all went to bed.  Another storm passed through.

Then at 6 am, the buildings fire alarm started going off, which freaked me out.  We went and looked out front and out back and didn't see anyone out or notice a fire anywhere.  The alarm quit, and then went off 2 more times.  It was really weird.  The neighbors called the FD and they came out, but still only 3 people came out, and there are 6 units here.  The fireman, said why has everyone not evacuated.  I said well we went out and didn't see anything and the alarm quit and came back on, so we didn't really know.  They looked around and messed with the fire box outside and then left.

As I was cleaning our refrigerator yesterday morning, the power came back on.  We were soooo excited.  It was 9:30 am, so we went 41 hours without power.  It was okay though, it wasn't too cold, thankfully.  It could have been so much worse in so many ways.  We are grateful.  O and that very loud buzz, is still there.  Got to make another phone call about that!

Thankfully we had gone to the store on Friday and bought flashlights to prepare for winter weather, because it's known to lose power then too.  The church also gave us some, so we were all set with flashlights for this hurricane weather.

We just thought we were leaving all the hurricanes and tornado's huh!?!?  There were so many lives affected by the awful hurricane who still need SO much prayer.  May we continue to remember and pray for these people for many more days to come.

Oh I am glad you guys and your home are OK. It really makes me appreciate the little things like electricity. We are praying for all the family affected by this sad storm.
